The Reverence and Awe in Worship

“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” - Hebrews 12:28-29

As we worship and experience God's presence in our worship there are two things that are very present... Reverence and Awe.

The writer of Hebrews explains that we have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken and therefore we need to respond with acceptable worship with those two very things. One is a feeling of holy fear, and the other is awe and wonder of how big God is. It’s difficult to describe these feelings. On one hand I want to be so close to Jesus, spending time at His feet with arms wide open, but on the other hand I want to be on my face buried under the very ground I'm laying on because of how holy, He is! Our God is a consuming fire and He will consume our lives and leave us in reverence and awe of who He is that He is good and He is holy.
